Saarlotta Virri is a filmmaker based in Helsinki, Finland. Her films navigate the space between playfulness and sorrow, often finding surprising ways to deal with collective and private grief as well as the transience of everything. Instead of individualist stories, she has focused on exploring the cacophony of collective voices and the human relationship with their immediate surroundings. Her works often carry a strong, distinctive atmosphere, born out of playful concepts, a focus on sensory detail, and shooting on 16mm film. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Documentary Film Directing from Aalto University. She is part of independent, artist-run production company POST POST which supports and develops film using experimental and artistic methods.
